No matter what age you are, if you are searching for Arizona Health Insurance, it’s important for you to know as much as possible about your rights and obligations as a consumer.  As a state, Arizona has created a comprehensive list of policy requirements and provisions to protect both consumers and insurance companies selling health insurance to residents.

One of the most important rights is Arizona’s guaranteed renewal policy, which states that as long as premiums are paid on time, insurance cannot be changed, canceled or refused to be renewed.  Companies issuing health insurance policies may not change premium rates on existing policies, but they are permitted to have schedule rate increases as you get older.

Arizona Health Insurance Policies

• Emergency Room initial medical screening and stabilization, plus emergency ambulance services, without prior authorization.
• Policies that cover prescription drugs must cover FDA-approved prescribed contraceptive drugs or devices.
• If inpatient services are covered, then prescribed home health services must be covered too.
• Newborn or newly adopted children are automatically covered for 31 days, and must be added to a health insurance policy if their addition is requested and paid for within 31 days.
• Consumers have a right to appeal denial of services or claim payments for up to 2 years following the denial.
• In case of divorce or death, dependents have the right to convert to their own policy

If you do have a pre-existing health condition, Arizona health insurance providers do have the right to temporarily or permanently exclude those conditions from coverage. unless you are an “eligible individual” which means you were previously covered by a group policy.  In that instance, state law requires that insurance coverage must be continued through COBRA.
